In this fast paced world everything has become commercial, the way people express love in today’s world is completely different from the way people of yesteryears would. Separation and divorce within a few years of marriage has become so commonplace today. I have seen many people who were madly in love with one another before marriage, badly wanting to break up post-marriage.

Arranged marriage is a social norm in countries like India. Love life and married life are diametrically opposite concepts. Couples get to know well about one another only after marriage. Marriage presents to them new situations and reveals characteristics about themselves, that they were unaware of till then. Indian parents are aware of this fact and they just do not want their children to marry someone very easily and then feel bad for it at a later stage. This could save a lot of trouble for both the couple as well as their well-wishers. Firstly, the horoscopes of the couple are matched for compatibility and they don’t go forward with the marriage if they are found to be incompatible.

This is true. The marriages of couples with incompatible horoscopes have ended in separation and divorce in numerous cases. But however, the scenario is changing slowly. Parents in India are getting increasingly open towards love marriages and accept their children to marry the ones they are in love with, only to see many of these marriages ending in divorce.

I’ve known a couple who loved one another sincerely for a good span of 8 long years. My friends and I were totally awed by their sincerity and commitment. We were sure that they would live happily till death. But all these thoughts came down to dust when they got a divorce just after 3 months of their marriage. What are we supposed to think about such cases!!

This doesn’t say that arranged marriages never end in separation and divorce. They do too. Chances are high if either of the two is abusive or impotent or cheating on the other spouse. People think that divorce is just a very simple matter. But it is an emotional rollercoaster. The heart is not a plaything. It is highly difficult to mend a broken heart, especially if the heart had unconditional love on somebody. Both the husband as well as the wife is affected badly due to divorce. It can’t be said that divorce affects women more than men. Emotions are common for both and so are the pains caused due to separation and divorce.
