Divorce is not between you and your partner alone! Written on September 1, 2009, by Humberto Sears.
Marriage is universal and so is divorce. The investigative faculty of my mind is still searching for more information on how to keep alive a marriage. I’m certainly against divorce, but the experiences of divorcees helps me understand how not to screw up a marriage. Divorce in Canada has become a very common event. In Oriental countries it was something that was hitherto unheard of. But now they too have started cracking the shell and many people are taking divorces worldwide.
People may think that only two individuals are hit hard by divorce. But in truth, the number of people who are affected depends upon the number of souls the partners brought to the Earth. Yes, I’m talking about their children!!
In many cases, the future of the children is at stake due to the hasty decision taken by the partners. An article I read in the online version of Tehran Times gave some fantastic insight on ‘helping children cope with separation and divorce’. It is certain that the suggestions given by the columnist in that article will be of great help to people who have divorced recently and feel sad seeing the sorry state of their children. Children are unnecessarily victimized in this clash of two egos, called divorce.
The columnist, Catrina McKechnie has highlighted the problems faced by children due to the adverse decision of their parents. Drug abuse, lack of proper guidance, engaging in delinquent activities, committing crimes etc are some of the most common things done by children whose parents are divorced as well as irresponsible. Family plays a main role in the success of any individual. The constant motivation of elders and the warmth and love that one gets at home will surely make him/her feel happy. This is very vital at present because we live in a highly competitive world. We all have high aspirations and children too wish to become successful in life. But how is it possible if the relationship between their parents is not smooth? Many children get psychologically disturbed due to the separation of their parents.
There have been some cases where the parents have used their children as buffers to vent out their anger and frustration. If beating is not enough some even go to the wild extent of inflicting burn injuries on the child using cigarettes and such harmful stuff. This may sound like a highly untrue story but that’s the truth. That has been happening for a long time now.
People have to be sensible enough and not resort to such inhumane activities. Many men and women regret marrying their ex-partner in the first place. But if they strongly feel that their children should not do such a thing, they should educate them properly about life and finding a good life partner. There is no doubt that the rate of divorce in Canada will decrease to a remarkable extent if these things are kept in mind and if people live accordingly.
